Live Forward

Being stuck is a terrible feeling. Our wheels spin but we can’t seem to get anywhere. Live Forward is for anyone who feels stuck in a hurt or a habit that they want to move past. Live Forward incorporates the reoccurring message of God’s generous grace as well as the best content from science and psychological research. If you are tired of reliving the same hurts or repeating the same mistakes, Live Forward is for you.

What to Expect at Live Forward

  1. Thursday Evening Schedule

    • 5:30-6:30pm Dinner (Building C, Student Center C160)
      A community meal shared with those attending a variety of classes on Thursday night
    • 6:30-7:20pm: Worship (Building C, Student Center C160)
      Music, Prayer and a Teaching that connects us with God
    • 7:30-8:30pm: Small Groups (Various Rooms in Building C)
      A variety of small groups designed to meet you where you are and help you Live Forward
    • 8:00-9:00pm: Common Grounds Café (Building C, Room C050)

    Childcare for ages 6 weeks thru 5th grade is available in KiDS COR (Building B) from 6:15-8:30 pm with a reservation.  Reserve childcare online at, or call 913-544-0285.

  2. Directions and Parking

    Live Forward Thursday night worship and groups take place in Building C at the Leawood Campus of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection (13720 Roe Ave., Leawood, Kansas 66224). For "drive to" directions via Google Maps, click here.

    Attendees are encouraged to park in lots C1 or C2 located outside of Building C near Roe Avenue.

    Multiple entrances are available (see map below). The Student Center is located in the northwest part of Building C. Signage and greeters will help direct visitors to the Student Center C160 where you will sign-in and receive a bulletin with program details each week.

Small Group Offerings

  1. The Essentials Class

    Thursdays | 7:30-8:30 pm  |  Room C136

    Essentials Class (For Women and Men) - Open for people to join any week. This crash course will introduce you to the basics of handling hurts and changing habits. Participants will receive a teaching followed by a time for gender divided groups to discuss the content. Topics will include “Boundaries,” “The Addiction Cycle,” and “What God Does and Does Not Do,” among others. Every eight weeks, the set of lessons will repeat.

    We recommend that Newcomers attend the Essentials Class first before joining other groups. However, each week you may choose whichever class best meets your needs.

    Room assignments are subject to change and can be found in the Care Night Bulletin that you will receive at the Connection Point when you arrive for Care Night dinner at 5:30 pm.

  2. Healing Hurts Groups

    Sometimes life hurts. It can hurt for many different reasons, yet still leave that same ache that something is not right. These ongoing groups will offer a safe place to find healing for your hurt through additional content and group discussion. Whatever the past hurt or present hurt, all are welcome and can join any week. Groups are always open.

  3. Changing Habits Groups

    These open groups are for people with a habit they have tried to stop but have not been unable to do so on their own.

    12 Step Groups

    Millions have found the Twelve Steps to be their path to a better life. These groups can help you with your habits by offering the 12 Step Method and the support of others who are traveling the same path as you. If you are just beginning your sobriety, we suggest you start with a 12 Step Group.

    • 12 Step Chemical or Sexually Compulsive Addictions – Men*  - For men looking for recovery from alcohol, prescription drugs and other drugs plus for men looking for recovery from pornography, lust and other behaviors.  These groups, though once separate, are currently meeting together. (Room C020c)
    • 12 Step Addiction – Women* - For women looking for recovery from Alcohol, Prescription Drugs, Pornography, Gambling, Drugs, Food and other compulsive behaviors. (Room C135)

    *Men and women's groups are "Coed" on 1st Thursdays (Room C135)

    • Vida Renovada - 12-Step group for men and women who speak Spanish. Room C018.


    SMART Recovery Groups

    SMART Recovery is open to anyone with a habit they are wanting to change. Group time will include discussing how to handle present temptations and introduce additional tools for making better decisions.

    • SMART Recovery Coed Group - For men and women looking for recovery through educational tools and group discussion. (Room C137)
    • SMART Recovery for Family and Friends - Co-Ed Class helping loved ones of people with addictions find support and tools to help their unique relationships.  (Room C143)

Propel - For High School Students

  •  Propel is a ministry for high schoolers that translates Live Forward lessons for those dealing with the difficulties of being a teen.

  • Following Dinner and Worship, women who speak Spanish can attend a 12 Step Class in Spanish from 7:30-8:30pm.
